We were engaged to contribute to and provide consultancy on early-stage sustainability considerations ahead of commencement on a long-running project to deliver a mixed-use development.
Having worked with Berkeley Group on a number of projects, we had a good understanding of their high internal standards for energy performance and carbon reduction.
The client was also keen to get ahead of new regulations and avoid redesigns when the Future Homes Standard comes into force (expected in 2025). As a long-running development, ongoing to 2031, a comprehensive, ‘futureproofed’ Energy Strategy was essential, to remain both compliant and buildable while also supporting the client to set realistic budgets.
The development would also be delivered during the AD-L 2021 transition period. We commenced our consultancy working to the AD-L 2013 regulations, and frameworks for SAP 10 emissions and TM59 overheating.
As the design developed, the requirements of AD L and AD O 2021 became applicable, prompting revised design inputs and compliance advice.
Energist were also required to provide a compelling brief to demonstrate the suitability of these technology to the Greater London Authority.
